ABOUT ME
I currently live in Atlanta, but I'm a Chicago native (South Side). For the last 15 years or so I've been a bit lost. My parents died when I was young and I experienced several other significant losses after that. I spent years living on friend's couches, moving from one apartment and city to another. I was running from years of mental, physical, and emotional abuse and the only time I felt human was when I'd hop in a car or on a plane and land in a new territory.
For years I traveled the world and whenever my friends were traveling I was one of the first people they'd call for advice. I'd help them plan their trip and give suggestions if I'd been there too. They would always joke that I needed a blog or my own PBS special. And truth is, I agreed, but I was so scared.
After reading Forever First Lady Michelle Obama's Becoming and watching Brene Brown's Call to Courage in the same week, I realized I needed to step into my light. That's why I created this site. I can't run from what makes me feel alive. I've got to step into it. I'll stumble along the way, but at least I'll be living more aligned with my purpose.
I'm not just going to write about the fluffy stuff. I'll definitely share my favorite restaurants and bars, but you'll also read about my struggle with body dysmorphia, ADD, depression, money, and other stuff. I'll share the challenges of being black, gay, and black and gay and how these identities mediate my experience.
Thank you for being here and I hope you stick around for my journey in growing into a travel writer and photographer.
